Hi folks, well the title says it all really, here i sit typing out this post and outside its blowing a full on gale, rain chucking it down, and local rivers bursting their banks, compared to yesterday, you could not get any more contrasts. So yesterday, well the weather was lovely, full sunshine, mild temps and just an all round cracking day. It was just too good not to get out there and enjoy the day. I headed out to a place i have not been to in years, its only about six miles out of the "grey auld toon",= grey old town.
My start off point was at Shankend viaduct, which was part of the Waverly line, that ran from Edinburgh to Carlisle, until Dr Beeching had his way.
The viaduct in the valley.

As i passed under one of the arches, i saw something strange, a bat hunting in broad daylight.

Further on i cut through a small wood, which was full of sign, from Deer to Woodpecker.

As i came through i could see my destination in the distance, the two peaks which are called the Maidens paps. Paps is scottish for breasts, so i will let you figure out why these hills were so named.

Once out of the little wood, i cut back up onto the dirt track road, looking towards the "Paps".

As well as taking pics on my camera, i had brought the camcorder along also, so i made another video for my youtube channel. I decided to try a bit of timelapse recording, so i lay at the side of the track, soaking up the sunshine whilst the camcorder did its thing. As i lay there, i heard croaking coming from the other side of the track, so i took my camera and headed off to investigate. When i reached the other side i was greeted by......
"Oh do come in dear, the water is lovely"..

And "oot ma way, ma mans calling me".."and am in need oh some lurving"...

"You hang on there big man,i will be with you in a tic.. once a get the paparazzi oot ma way".

So i left the lovers be,and collected the camcorder.
Next i passed the old derelict farm house.

I next strolled along the burn, with my goal in the distance, but getting nearer all the same.

It was here i discovered that there was an Otter in residence.

And was quite partial to feasting on lovers...

Well i did eventually make it to the top of the "Paps", i thought i would of had the place to myself, but upon reaching the top, i was greeted by a bunch of RAF cadets from Cumbria. It was rather blowy on the top, so i did,nt hang around for to long, but i did manage to get a pic of the view. Looking back the way i had come.

So there you go, that was my sunny day out in the Border hills.
Oh, and in case anyone is interested, heres the video i made.

And from a wet & windy Scottish Borders.
Cheers Stuart.
