I plagiarised a few ideas I had seen on the net and used a piece of ash I had spare, bought a 24" blade so all in it has cost me a total of £4.

I am not a skilled wood butcher but think I managed a functional saw and whiled away a wet bank holiday so not a total waste of time. I just need to see if I can make a pouch to take it and my axe.

The ash I used is on the right

Then cut down the length to give me the sizes I had guessed.

Cut the slot to take the blade

Planed the two pieces square ish before cutting to final length

the bits cut and drilled ready and the oak turny thing for twisting the cord, I had to cut the mortice (I think that's the correct name) holes with a scalpel I must get some chisels so they're not the neatest.

After rounding off and oiling all done and it folds!

Very tidy job of work there, looks good and strong; and with a 24" blade there's not much it won't handle. Nicely done sir!

Very nice work!

I made myself one a few years ago I ended up giving to a friend. I really should get round to making myself another one.
