water purification tablets in their old age

So wasn't sure where to post this but here it goes....

i forgot about some water purification tablets (pretty sure iodine) that i had left in a snap lock bag in the back draw, 2 years later and i just found them the other day. the lid which was metal is now fully corroded and the bag is filled with a yellow/brown mist.

anyone have any idea what this would be from/what it is?

just for curiosity sake really

Yellow / brown sounds like Iodine.. The ziplock I keep my bottle of Polar Pure in has taken on a yellow/brown colour - as have the nalgene water bottles I used in Namibia

hi WolfGang...the rule of thumb with iodine tabs is if they have a rusty color/powdery and crumble,then its time for the trash/toilet flush...yes they go bad even in the sealed bottle, even after just afew years...that's why we check our kit every once and again...i hope i helped...vince g. 11B Infantry...
