i just ordered a pair of the craghoppers lined kiwi trousers. look good to me so hopefully they'll be nice and warm. thank you for the spot on those under £20 with postage sounds good to me.

Ladies’ and Men’s Merino Thermal Underwear were on offer ar Aldi. There may be some still left if you are lucky!
£14. 59 each at http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_8400.htm

PREPER............ :)

Cool, or should I say hot, thanks for the heads up.

BTW I have a pair of lined Kiwis and I find them to be very warm. I didn't have much confidence in how well they would perform when I bought them but I've found them to keep my legs warm even in sub zero temperatures. Wearing them is more comfortable IMO than having long underwear under my trousers and gives more freedom of movement.

I got a set of Trouser Liners from British Military Surplus for £2 and they are pretty good, also can recommend the arctic socks for 50p!

Some folks have complained about delivery from them though so not always plain sailing if you getting a few odds and ends its prob worth it.

just ordered a few bits and the pricing is real good will have to see what the delivery service is like though

Well they didn't have any left. :( However TK Maxx did have some merino wool tops and at under £17 (instead of £40 RRP) they weren't much more expensive so I bought one. I'll test drive it as soon as my current baselayer starts smelling. :D

I wear these trousers for kicking about and they are very comfy. Also change into a pair before getting in my hammock if its cold and put on fresh socks - Toasty :)

Hi All,

I've a couple of pairs of lined trousers - had them for years and they're not known brands.

A cheaper alternative is a pair of brown cords, about a fiver from tesco and they'll dry when wearing if wet, without the chafing you get from jeans or denim.

A trick we used years ago (longjohns are issued these days) when wearing the old style olive drab lightweights (trousers) was to wear a pair of tights under them!!

As cheap as chips and could be rolled up and stuffed into a pocket.

No, before anyone asks, they weren't fishnets.... :-D

ive loved me old longjhons ever since i was a kid:o
i bought some ex german issue longjhons last month in canterbury kent from the surplus shop . they are the thickest long js ive ever seen more like a thin trakie bottom going camping to moz and there is snow on the ground i no my family jewels will be happy in there sleeping sack not in me chest.

Windproof shell layer and thin woolen long johns have been my standard wear for cold weather for as long as I can remember. When you're active there is no reason for padded pants, just makes them harder to dry when they have become moist or wet.

For rests I use a pair of sawed off SDF quilted overpants or a pair of fibre pile long johns. My plan is to add side zips to the latter so I can put them on without removing my boots. Oh, the fibre pile longjohns go inside the shell layer.

just got the lined kiwis and i already love them! i got a bit panicky when i had placed the order that they might come up small (i guess waiting around for deliveries makes me a little crazy) but they are lovely and warm.
