Can anybody advise me who would be the best person to broach at the Wilderness Gathering regarding sharpening skills.

I have become reasonably good at getting an edge but I reckon I can still do better with the right coaching. I am lead to believe the General is meant to be the the main man for sharpening! Does anybody know if he will be there? If not, who else will be able to help?

Last year one of the workshops was about sharpening but it involved purchasing a kit for over £100. That didn't impress me much!

Hope someone can help!

Heads up Nipper,
We ran a thread recently on honing sharpening skills (Oh the irony). I think that a shaving sharp edge can be attained without the use of specialist kits, if you know how to get the best from what you have. Have a look at britishblades for all the written help you'll need - but if you're still having problems after that, ask again - I certainly would not want to pay for sharpening advice, that can be had for free from the likes of us.

Hi Ogri

It wasn't the advice that was the problem, it was the £100 for the sharpening kit that he was trying to sell off the back of it. It certainly seems alot of money for 2 carborundum stones and a guide!

Nipper, I am no master at sharpening, but if you wish to sit down and iron out any minor problems I am more than willing to sit down with you and make things scarey :D :D

Which would be unlike most of my kit currently (I have about 2 weeks of sharpening to get things upto standard including the axe (although you can still shave with it, ask moduser or lithril what it is like) :)

Hi Leon-1

That sounds like a good offer!

I have a job pending down in Devon which I should of tended to weeks ago. I reckon I had better get down there and sort it! ;)

Nick

Ps: Will you be at the Wilderness Gathering?

Nick, yes I will be at the Widerness Gathering, thanks very much to Neil1, without his generosity there is no way I could of afforded it  .

Anytime you are in the westcountry look me up, I would be more than happy to meet up, currently I have a fair amount of time :)

bcuk are down at the gathering, we're probably going to have a few little workshops on the stall, sharpening included, and a few other things.

Leon says he's no master at sharpening, they're sharp enough though ;)
