A Norse padlock. Vikings did not need any padlocks......
:)

Interesting design.. Well made too. If you try to force it with your hands, is it strong?

I assure you, you can't open it with your bare hands! You need a crowbar, a hammer or an axe to crush the steel tongue within and force it open :D

I have to agree, simple and elegant? maybe not elegant but very functional and props to the Norse Viking who first thought of it as well as the maker of the current example :D

Maybe he has Norse DNA, they went to his area too

Edited. Joke removed as people have complained about it. Wow. A joke about 1100 years ago.....

Being very popular guys among the ladies wherever they went, it is possible!

It is true! We know the monks and priests complained about the Viking raiders. But not a written word from Nuns.....
They had no time, cooking and making the Nunneries ready for the visits.
;)

Haha, could be ;)
Btw, I am actually largely schwaben, a kind of german, but anyway, Europe is like a big cauldron, where all kinds of genes had been mixed in the last thousand years :D

Cool stuff, Wayland is as close to Viking as we have on here, at least I think that's the case :D He might well have some thoughts/opinion on this. Looks like an effective bit of kit...

Looks like a good reconstruction. There are a surprising number of padlocks and internal locks that survive from the early medieval (Norse/Viking/Saxon) period.

That one looks like it would fit the bill perfectly.

Glad you like it! :)
Yeah, I too found some interesting pieces on the net. Unfortunately this is the only design, I could decipher, so to say. Thou the originals usually have a bit more complex system, mostly with two or more springs.
