Hi, try making your own ventile smock. using the sas smock as a pattern (do not cut it up ). I made my own and cut out the middle man. cheers topknot.

Also got a question for any one out there with a Arktis Windproof smock, like to hear how you rate it.
Had a ventile smock years ago ,while being very durable and windproof weighed a ton when wet and was stiff as a board. Much prefer the SAS smock pattern, lighter and drys much quicker and ventilates much better.
Interested to hear from anyone with this smock to see how you rate it in comparission with the standard smock.

I've sat in mine (SASSkit) next to Moduser wearing his (BCUK). The BCUK is less military in appearance, although for me, I like the button pouch pockets on the smock style. Both seem well designed garments. The hood is better on the BCUK for sure (its wired where the SASS isn't), but I prefer the pockets on the SASS. YMMV! Both are great jackets

I have an Arktis windproof smock that I bought in '99 and I also have the issue arctic windproof.

Both dry out very quickly when wet.

The Arktis hood isn't wired where as the issue smock hood is larger and wired.

The Arktis has a pertex lining in the hood, around the shoulders and the skirt of the jacket is also lined.

They both have 4 decent sized bellow pockets on the front, two poachers pockets sewn into the inside back skirt of the jacket and both have an inside chest security pocket.

The Arktis has two decent sized zipped chest pockets aswell.

I like the Arktis smock, but when you have alot fo gear in the pockets the neck of the jacket can cut into you which is pretty annoying. And although it has extra features I personally don't think it is as good as the Army issue windproof, which is alot more comfortable and is stronger too.

I am in the process of practicing with bed sheets at the moment to make my own smock, but I haven't had much time on my hands lately, and until I think I am proficient enough then I am going to buy a jacket!:)
Maybe someday I will actually have the confidence to buy a stack of ventile and make my own but not just yet.
Cheers for the info though.
