US ICS Tent

I was offered said US Army ICS tent a few weeks ago for a bargain price, allegedly a great piece of kit, I’ve not bought it, for two reasons those being that bloody awful UCP camouflage pattern chiefly and also not sure just how roomy they are and me being a bit of a lump too.
Got me thinking now the flysheet is obviously waterproof, question 1 is there anyway of actually changing its colour? I doubt it but ??? And question 2 is have any of you learned folk ever owned or used one?

It’s awful, can’t believe they stuck with it as long as they did. Palate is all wrong and pattern too small.

I wonder if this type of stuff would work?

Test piece required.

Applied effects maybe interesting. Not sure how thick & rigid that spray paint is when applied? You may end up with a cracking crisp packet effect.


Have you put it up for size checking yet?? I'd be surprised if its been built on the small side as there is a trend for GI serviceman ( and some of the service girls ) are built like rural shire horses.

I would try one of the fabric spray paints TBH such as the Jenolite range. It's designed to stay flexible and not crack. I've used it on car seats etc.

I'm assuming the material is a coated ripstop nylon of some kind. I'll spray a piece with some vinyl paint I have and see what it does (got to have some breakfast first though )

Cook has the morning off unfortunately; so it's just croissants and coffee on the patio in the sunshine

OK, I've only got black gloss but there are loads of colours and I'm sure there's a matt finish. The fabric is thin parachute nylon and this is after two light sprays. It ends up a little stiffer but still very flexible and no cracking or flaking even when crunched quite violently.

No guarantees it would do the same for the tent fabric though.

Floor size, by the way, is 6' x 3.4' (96" x 40.5")

Yep , Have heard that and the failings of the digicam exercise - massive embarrassment from the Pentagon and after some time passing , eventual acceptance and change.

It’s okay they’ve moved in to Sig’s that l fire themselves now.

I have some UCP kit.

A) It was/is relatively cheap compared to other kit that has skyrocketed in price.
I really like molle canteen pouches and waist packs. ECWCS (Gortex) is hard wearing and the UCP & ABU pattern is available nearly new.

B) I use some items for the visibility factor.

C) I have some to try out dye projects. Looks quite effective with the right shade of green or brown.

The ICS is designed to minimise light emission. Might be a good option for daytime shade.
