Urban foragers garden ideas needed .

Only a handkerchief - acre of productive land. Enough for veg,fruit bees, barns. Got room to add some chickens. Not enough room for large animals or coppicing, so we may need to add some land in a year or two.

That Must be a lot of fulfilling work . I unfortunately only have a small 45 degree hill of a back garden . That the missus wanted a patio on . And I have built a monster of a concrete platform on the top of the hill . For the 11 ft x13 ft wedge shaped shed .(man cave) . So we have only a sliver of space left down one side . I will eventually use that too .

I'm not sure if it is native to England, or if it will grow there at all, but if it is/does iwill absolutely recommend bort Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) and black salsify (Scorzonera hispanica).

Slowly but surely onwards I plod .
I've some more pallets coming today so hopefully I'll get some more boxes built out of them . Some of the peas are for tonights pie and that is a story in itself.

Do wild strawberries do better growing in rocky places? That's where I notice they like to grow in the wild. I have an idea of building a 'wall' of wild strawberries with hollow bricks and letting them grow there.

They grow just about anywhere in our garden. The best fruit seems to come from the ones in partial shade though - with such small fruits direct sun all day can dry them out very quickly.

Silver birch boletes mushroom patch almost finished . The tree stump is still alive and I've buried 3 slabs of silver birch under the soil to rot away . After the area was evenly dusted with the spores I soaked it with a heavily sugared 10ltrs of water . I will shred leaves through Autumn and scatter them on bit by bit . Careful not to suffocate the area.
I also made a Pea paradise out of old pallet and some plastic lining the neighbors threw out . I also collected the upright sticks from local bushes getting to them before the council does .

We've been enjoying our other sweet peas so decided on a larger plot

Great to plan, even better to be out and doing. Great time to empty compost bins and spread it, start early plants on heated propagators or windowsills, prune or plant fruit trees etc.

I've gone super geek on the mapping out for the future.
Thanks to the chickens we had plenty of compost .
Every pot , tray , box and the bank have been filled and covered over the winter .
Me and the eldest have had a very productive 2 days of solid muck spreading .
drawn up a sowing plan for the seeds i have ready to go .

If you can score some plastic sheeting, it might be worth knocking up some cloches to warm the soil and protect seedlings. I can plant out a month earlier with cloches. I'm in the process of building a load of cold frames from glazed cupboard doors and offcut wood. All gets things moving quicker.

I have got some huge clear bags . (bank bags) I worked at a money mill .
I use them to cover the potatoes etc and clear plastic sheet that came with the shed for windows .
I lean that over them also but your spt on I need cold frames .
