Picked this up on my travels today, no idea what its for but feels lovely in the hand. Has the broad arrow so might be army issue. Anyone any ideas on what its made to service ?

Those are/were certainly issued knives, an engineer regiment I was attached to had them in the late 90s. I was told that they were signals kit, for stripping wires etc but was also told that they were fariers kit.
Certainly a well made knife, good find.

Had one of those, issued to royal signal technicians in the late 70's, when I left one guy made me an offer so I sold it to him, very handy and excellent steel in the blade.

I don't have one of those but I have one that's very similar. It belonged to my wife's grandfather, who was an engineer officer in WWI (US Army). The biggest difference is that it doesn't have those odd serrations. It's also not stainless. An almost identical one is still manufactured.

I also have a ton of old tools that once belong to him, too. More cutting tools than I've ever had. Haven't used a single one yet, except for the heavy-duty crosscut saw, which I think I mentioned here somewhere before.

I pulled out the knife last night that I mentioned in my previous post. It actually has two blades, both opening from the same end. One is an ordinary knife blade, the other as I described. I wasn't able to read the markings on the blade, however. The blades look smaller, too.
