Tree bark ID please.

Does anyone know what this is? I'm not sure. Not very good with barks id's
The tree is gone, these were left over from from a council rampage.

aka goat willow, should have a pink/redish heart wood.

Makes a half deacent bow if there are any long bits left.

The inner bark makes good cordage too ..........and it tastes sweet compared to the other willows

It does smell really nice when freshly cut. The bark is stubborn to get off though. Thought about making cordage already, I will have to dedicate an afternoon to cooking it up. There are some good logs up to 4 ft long and 6 inch diameter. It splits really easily too.

not very good, its not very strong and it rots quickly

Some really nice lumps there mate. I hope you get on with your neighbours or do they think you are a bit , erm eccentric!! Mine do, but they always say if the s**t hits the fan and society starts to collapse they want me on their side with my spoon carving, firelighting and fungi identification skills!

Wouldn't mind a couple of lumps of that lovely birch btw!!!

Not sure what the neighbours think tbh. I spent a fair bit of time over the winter with the tarp up practising with the firesteel and cooking steaks, I think eccentric would be a polite description . We get on fine with them though, .

Plenty of birch behind our house waiting for me to nick. Might be hard posting it to ya though
