Saw this today on the middle rail of a post and rail fence on the South Downs. The faced section is overlooking grazing land amongst hedges and well away from the nearest trees.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the origin?

Hmmm - well I could be convinced otherwise...but I'd suspect dropping rather than pellet.....

I like poo me,:D but useless when it comes to bird poop. I thought crows normally left pellets (?) to get rid of most of the waste so best guess would be a game bird of some sort. Doesn't look like the pheasant poop I normally see in local woods but then that has probably exploded out of the animal at some force during the panic of the hunting season....maybe this is a more relaxed pheasant?

I'm doubting goose as its on the middle rail - so I suspect it must be a bird perching on the top rail

I do have a suspect in mind that I have seen in the area
