Right I need an LED torch for about £40 for a present for somebody. I've got a streamlight at the moment which I'm really impressed with but I also quite like the Inova'. What do you peeps think? Any ideas.

Superb. There's some reviews on BB I believe. I've got a couple and they're fantastic bits of kit.
I realy rate the Fenix torches IMHO in fact I have 3 in total. 2 are the 2xAA (L2D) and I have the single AAA as well. They are well made and I tested their build quality as they have been bashed around a bit. Better than maglight any day of the week.
I personally use a Surefire 9P, a 2 D cell Mag (which i am going to convert to LED), and a whole load of cheapy little LED's i scatter in my kit.
Matt, I have been playing with some cheapies from China, one of them uses a CREE LED, takes AAA batteries and has a fair amount of power (similar output if slightly higher than my Inova X0).
Have a look at the Inova Bolt range as well as the fenix (fenix are very good torches by the way).

Me too I have a 1AA Model (L1D IIRC) which I chose to be batter consistent with my Myo XP headlight, camera and mini radio. Stunning bit of kit - small as a clipper lighter, good run time being LED, variable light output and "pocket friendly". Lives in my possibles pouch and has saved my ar** when walks took too long to get home several times! I ahve to say if you haven#'t tried Lithium batteries, they are well worth it as well

Used head torches for years, unfortuanately for navigation purposes they're no good on your head as you have to look through the light which destroys your night vision, you can put htem on your wrist or around your neck to stop this. I normally carry two though, my streamlight and a head torch, head torch is mainly used in camp and the streamlight for walking.
Red light is a lot easier on your eyes at night - it preserves night vision. It makes a huge difference! Alot of head torches now have the option of a red lens to cover the led, or some are just dedicated red.
i just got my first headlight there a few weeks ago. before that i used whatever hand torch was available at the time. i haven't gotten to use it properly yet, but it was so handy for poking around n the inerds of my pc. i already got another one to give to my computer tech friend. he has kept me in pc's for years and is always 2head stuck in a machine". i think he will find it handy
Another happy Fenix user here. If you're buying new at the moment it's best to get a Cree or Rebel model as they are much brighter and have multiple levels of brightness (which I consider to be incredibly useful).
They can take being dropped onto concrete (I know this from experience), they are very water resistant (again I speak from experience) and the quality, while probably not as good as Surefire, is very good.

I've got an Inova X0, and I'm really happy with it. Similar size to a mini mag, but it takes CR123's so it's a bit larger in diameter. Also feels much more solidly built. Brightness is in a whole different league from the Mag, although I don't know how it compares to a Fenix or Surefire. My only complaint is you have to turn the end cap to turn it on/off, although for momentary use, there is a button on the cap that you can hold down.
I also have a Gerber Infinity Ultra, might be called something else in Britain, but it's not really the same class. It's really tiny, though, as it only takes a single AA, and it's still brighter than the mini mag. Pretty bulletproof, and it's small enough that I just EDC it clipped in my pocket.

I've just bought a 6 x D-cell Maglite that my local B&Q had on offer for £15.00.
There was no good reason to buy it, as I have several other far more sensible torches. I'll probably convert it to LED to make it just a little bit more sensible.
I've had an Inova X5 permanently on my belt for about the last seven years. I like it and I'm used to it, but I'm sure there are better torches around.
