Lets talk about movies, although I dont own a Tv I do enjoy renting the odd Dvd or going to the cinema every now and then.

Recently Seen the New Batman Movie, it was excellent,I really enjoyed it.

Another Movie I seen this year that I really liked was The Bucket List.

What about you?

Not seen many new ones this year, lots of old ones that I'll always enjoy (such as Plunkett and Macleane, Battle of Britain, Fight Club .. to name but 3).

But the award for Twoflowers new film of 2008, in the catagory of "one that he's actually got round to watching before it was 2 years old", goes too...

Into the Wild (see other threads about this stunning adaptation of the book which is a true story).

Me too!

Also enjoyed the new Batman movie (and I hated all the other ones), was very disappointed by the new Indy movie but am very very excited (like little boy with big Lancaster bomber airfix kit (or was that just me) kinda excited) for the new James Bond movie.

But did your silent suffernance gain you points with whoever you sat through it with? Were they worth it?

I liked The Dark Knight, as I did Batman Begins, saw the latter on IMAX, but I hear there is a huge wait if you want to see the current one like that.

Not seen anything esle all that impressive in the cinema lately. Got American Ganster on DVD and thought that was VERY good.

While I am looking forward to the next 007 outing, I am also looking forward to another Daniel Craig film; Defiance, where he playes Tuvia Bielski. Anyone who watched Ray in Poland when he was talking about the partisans should be at least interested in what they do with the story.

That`s interesting Chris, I`d heard about the film but didn`t realise it was to do with the Partisans struggle against the nasties.

Looking forward to seeing that.

I don't go to the pictures much so I'm usually about 18 months behind with films. The only thing I've seen at the cinema this year was the new Indiana Jones film. And the less said about that the better.

Speilberg/Lucas, what the hell were you thinking? :slap: :nono:

I do buy alot of DVD's though (about 40 since January) and my favourites this year have been

This is England (just brilliant)
Planet Terror (so much better than Tarantino's contribution to the 'Grindhouse' project)
Rise of the Footsoldier (I know it's a bit carp but I like the story behind it)
Inside man (Clive Owen is always watchable - this would be mediocre without him)

I'm sure there are some others but I'd have to have a look to jog my memory.

The Orphange
Pan's Labyrinth - one of the best movies ive seen!
Nobody Know's - a Japanese film. The most powerful and most depressing film ive ever watched! I only watched it once, I couldnt watch it again.

and a film i watched a couple of years ago, which will maybe suit many peoples bushcrafty tastes here

Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring.

Planet Terror (so much better than Tarantino's contribution to the 'Grindhouse' project)

I rented 'Planet Terror' the other week and, apart from the mock advert for 'Machete' at the beginning, i thought i was utter garbage! I understand everyone has different tastes and that mine may not be the same as everyone else's, opinions are an entitlement and i would not like to insinuate that yours is not right Switch old boy, but it reminded me of a phrase about style over content an old instructor of mine once said; 'You cannot polish a turd, but you can stick a flag in it!' I think that, bearing in mind the standard of actor that started in it, it was bobbins! Not having a pop, just demonstrating a balanced view.:D

I've got to agree with you about 'This is England' though, Shane Meadows is a genius and this is right up there with 'Dead Mans Shoes'. Looking forward to his new one 'Somers Town'.

in bruges, very dark and very funny, gallows humour at its best.

switch, you mentioned "this is england", have you, or anyone else for that matter, watched any of the other shane meadows films?

I think i've seen all of them, apart from Le Donk. The guy is genius and challenges the myth that 'the more money you throw at a project, the better it is'. In my opinion, a Ken Loach or Mike Leigh for the new millenium with an earthy, gritty, realistic and darkly humourous take on life in the UK, social realism at it's best. Don't forget Paddy Considine!

cast, setting, storyline, soundtrack, cinematography pretty much every aspect of shane meadows films are spot on as far as i'm concerned. this is england could be about a kid who lived on my estate, the attention to detail is fantastic. if i didn't know that shane meadows grew up in the next county and a few years before me i'd swear that i recognised nearly all of the characters. it's one of the few films that i've seen that has made anything like a decent attempt to explain skinhead culture to people. this is england, and to an extent a room for romeo brass do make the point that just because someone chooses to shave their head, tattoo themselves, wear bovver boots, and listen punk/ska/roots etc. it doesn't instantly follow that they must be a neo-nazi boot boy. which is nice, especially if, like me, you choose to shave your head, get tattooed, wear big scary boots, and listen to punk/ska/roots!
cheers shane, i'm not a neo-nazi and i'm really not too keen on the idea that people might mistake me for one, thanks for going some way to clarifying the situation for us all.

Yeah I really thought this film was good. I was suprised people at work didnt understand it, thought it was "a film about racists" but the complexity of each character was astounding, even the real `bad guy` was shown to be totally disgusted with himself and his own ideals by his acts commited at the end of the film (dont wanna spoil it for people!) All this was portrayed through good acting, not by words.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My wife tried to haul me along to see it.
Thank God I have the ability to become instantly sick. Or could it be the tought of seeing this movie?

Tor

yeah I nicked it off the internet. thank god I didnt pay or I might have felt obliged to sit through the whole thing otherwise.
