cheers fellas really appreciate the comments here. iv'e got to say i do not enjoy making 'modern' styled sporrans like this but atleast i could put some tooling into it and make it unique. once xmas is over and i have some free time i will be making more of the soft sporrans based on the culloden pattern. was given a load of brown and red seude the other day and have tons of beautiful honey coloured leather too for vibrant bags should be fun

thanks guys. Steve i work aboard the boat. i have set up the bow as my workshop. i have 3X3 square feet to stand in between the stove and a chest of drawers full of finished and half finished projects where i keep my tools and dyes etc too. tis cramped but does me fine and i get to work with a view and on a nice day can open to cratch cover up and work pretty much outside in the bow.

if its a nice day tomorrow i will try and get a decent picture of my setup

Thats an excellent piece of work hamish. Good stuff. sealing the leather after dying can stop the colour bleeding and would have given you a truer purple, but i think your right that it looks good as is. I have been using the new ecoflo pro water dyes and am very impressed with them, i dont think you will have a problem with leaching. but again i think you should leave the inside plain.

i painted the green with eco-flo water based dye. and the thistle top with eco-flova purple stuff. then i painted on 3-4 coats of super sheen resist. THEN i went over it all with the light brown oil dye. it has worked in the pasdt using eco-flo antique gel but for some reason the oil dye went straight through the resist on the purple areas. but it doesnt look too bad so i have learnt my lesson!

Writing in the spirit of being constructive, I think it should be 'BOT a glove'. 'Don't touch a wildcat that is not wearing gloves'. I.e. if you annoy me I will scratch you badly. Bot is Scots for 'without'.

I am not Scots though and perhaps that particular wording is what your client wanted.

Really nice though and I rather think the colour is an example of serendipity as it works so well.

you are correct. i looked up the crest and it said BOT a glove, but then some versions had BUT a glove. so i referred back to the crest he sent me and it had BUT so i went with that. if he wants it changed i can easily change the U into an O. thanks for noticing that ;)

Not me but my Scots wife. I was drooling over the pictures and had to show her the skill involved and she commented about the spelling and explained the meanings.

I thought I should mention it in case it was an oversight.
