Well I found a bit of tool steel from a planner blade that I must have picked up over 10 years ago. I had been reading threads about making a ferro rod striker and I thought I would give the bit steel a go.
Very gentley on the grinder with lots of cooling in water. Didn't get the exact shape I wanted at the top but after some work on the water stones the edges are superb. The chainsaw file wont look at it so it must still be hard.
