A rope winding machine
I've wanted to make one of these for a long while, so yesterday I started on it, making it all from scrap bits and pieces found in my workshop.
The main wooden parts are all oak, and the handle part is made from 9mm ply and a bit of broom shank.
The metal parts are three tent pegs.
I bent the tent pegs to shape with my vice and a big hammer. I did all three at the same time so they would all end up the same size.
Initial trials showed that the strain caused when twisting pulled the pegs out of their slots in the wood, so I solved that by glueing a strip of leather round the outer edge then whacking in some staples for extra strength.
Best of all - it works and I'll be bringing it to the moot next week so everyone can have a go.
Thanks for looking,
Eric
