I'm thinking of building one of the above, I'm most tempted to go for a Lavvu type tipi/ bell tent hybrid, the main problem I found with sourcing the poles for the tipi can be overcome with the lavvu, and, my woodwork skills & tools are not good enough for a yurt. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, anecdotes, patterns or do's and do not's?
Cheers

Your probably about right. I made a small tipi out of scrap cottons and decided once it was made that a soulpad type shape is better. Tipis need solid poles, they dont pack down, and arent good in the rain. Laavus the central pole cuts down on the space. I wanted to make a tent out of recycled furnishing fabric, I didnt want to waste money making tent until I was really sure of what I wanted. The result was a water tight eyesore.

Yeah, I mean a Tipi for festivals e.c.t is fine but for walking around with it packed down even bamboo poles make it impossible unless you fancy going Lakota and strapping them to the back of a horse. but i can make some kind of bell tent lavvu arangement, im thinking basically a lavvu but with one side raised like the frontage of a bell tent and tipi style smoke flaps at the top so i can have a fire/ stove in there.
