this may sound bonkers coming from a kit king but

problem with a big tent like a bell tent Drew is that you can tidy it up and then you turn round and about 2 seconds later its an absolute **** tip again, i noticed this with my baker tent, theres actually too much room in there, where as with a small time set up it keeps you disciplined with you set up because you dont have a choice, mind you i wouldnt mind a nice big bell tent,.

Funny I'd say it's easier to organise your kit with a hammock than with a tent. I can hang things off the SRL (drybag with my book and journal, my headtorch, my water bottle, spare clothes), hang my rucksack and foodbag from the carabiners at either gather end f my hammock, I keep my cigs and lighter between my hammock and my UQ.

The only piece of kit that doesn't have a place are my shoes when I go to sleep. I invariably find it a pain to hook them over the ridgeline so they usually just stay on the ground.

As for a foot pad, I have a 1ft sqrd offcut of ccf mat. Doubles as a bum pad to sit on as well as something dry to stand on when getting changed, and I can use it to plug any cold spots when I'm in the hammock too. Otherwise I used to just use my rucksack, once everything is setup theres' very little left in it anyway.

Go to the greengrocer and get an old onion net sack. Cut it down the sides, thread some paracord through and make a mini-hammock. Then sling that below your ridge line and you can stash most of your daily kit in there - within easy reach. The easiest way to keep your footwear off the ground once you get parked inside your hammock is to invert them over a couple of sticks poked in the ground within arm's reach. Even if they are outside your tarp footprint, the soles will be uppermost and any rain will just run off. As for something to stand on, the rubber floor mats from the footwell of a car works really well, and can be easily cleaned if it gets muddy.
