In the early 1990s I spent six months backpacking around Canada, the USA and Mexico, and had a wonderful time.
I was in San Diego and stumbled across the workshop of a native American woodcarver.
His work was amazing, and I asked him how he went about creating such wonderful sculptures, expecting him to say something mystical about releasing the inner spirit of the wood with his traditional tools.
His reply?
"Nah my friend, I just whack it until it looks like something, then I sand it down a bit!"
And before you ask, he wasn't Chippewa
Just goes to show, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
