Anyone who has the kit and skills required for a particular area could live in that area indefinitely. The native tribes in various parts of the world have lived in the "wilds" for centuries, and still do. If you, I, or anyone else for that matter, learned all the skills of the Evenk, we could live as nomadic reindeer herders in Siberia for as long as any native Evenk could.

It would only require a small change of mindset for any modern person to head off into the Yukon and live in exactly the same way as the prospectors of the Gold Rush days. After all, most of the original gold rushers were city dwellers, who had less skill and experience of living in the wilds than most of us on this forum, and no modern kit either. If they could do it, so could we.

At the very least you would reach a stage where things needed replacing such as boots & clothes and then you would need supplies.

i would say no to this, boots can be remade with other materials such as animal skin and sewed together with sinews or cordage or even spruce roots and then waterproofed with animal fat or nut/vegetable oils, a sole could be made from wood or bark and the leather stitched to it..

i think the main problem would be medical supplies, once they had gone....BYE BYE bushcrafters...:(

Very interesting comments , sublime to the ridiculous ! On sensible note someone much more clever than i , needs to post a set of rules /circumstances before this becomes the longest thread in BCUK history .

So far , no one has come forward and beaten my paltry 9 days !!

Gabrielsdad, In Skates defence , although sounding slightly defeatest i think he was aiming at the majority of the human population , rather than , for the most part our specialist community or forum members , i for one know the man personally and am sure , all things taken into account he would survive longer than the masses.

No offence intended , as if the pooh hit the fan , we would all be together i am sure ...

The funny thing is that in an actual, down to the line survival situation the correlation between staying alive and tools (and even knowledge) is not as strong as you might think. It's a funny old business.

Sometimes when you put a sheep in a trailer they think themselves to death.

This is such a fantastic community !! A lot of my mates think it's madness , but thanks to this site i have met (and yet to meet ) some of the most kind ,thoughtful, intelligent, forward thinking ,rational people in the world !! And if i were really faced with a proper survival situation , whether for a challenge/bet or for real , i know where i would choose my team from , and i don't even know most of them .

If you were allowed to assemble a small number of people to attempt this , this forum , in my opinion would be the place , and i honestly think you would be hard pushed to gather a group of strangers that could handle the situation better , from anywhere...

Sam , brave statement sir , you must have given it some thought ,season, choice of venue , kit ,skills, and most of all keeping it together mentally . if you are talking about doing it on your own of course .

Then i take my hat off to you , i tried it and foolishly announced it on here , failed miserably i am afraid/
