Bought a pack of these in a supermarket in Patong recently, they're alcohol gel in little tins (which seem to be pressed from recycled cans). Pack of 12 was about £1.50
Opening one up (they're individually wrapped) the gel is quite firm and I couldn't really detect any smell. Using my new Zebra lunchbox, I thought I'd cook some noodles
Was hoping to cook like this in my hotel but believe it or not, I had no way of lighting them. Bought a lighter later in the week but didn't get round to using it. One touch from a match and it burst into flame
I presume the gel is similar to those chafing gels but in a more compact form. One use only as there's no lid and I expect it would evaporate until dry unless you could seal it in plastic or something but not bad for emergency use.
The wooden chopsticks charred, as expected and the burner did go out but my noodles were cooked by about half the gel (which is when it went out for the second time)
