Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
I was wondering about Inuit, and igloos and winter sod houses, when I posted the reply above.
They burn fat in their soapstone lamps.
cheers,
M

Not my area of knowledge but I believe the sleeping platforms are raised and the entrance is lower and is never blocked. Cold air and heavy gases like CO2 (Carbon dioxide) descend and pool in the antechamber for want of a better word and they also have higher ventilation holes for the lighter than air CO (carbon monoxide) to escape

I'd read this article already and thought about posting it.
Here's another tragic story in the same vein, not quite bushcrafty though,
http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/9166...an_dies_of_Carbon_Monoxide_poisoning_in_tent/.
The US CDC have this report, http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4832a1.htm.
This web page is also interesting, http://www.carbon-monoxide-poisoning.com/article10-dangers-co-poisoning-camping.html.
I also found this intriguing bit about cooking pot size, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15473455 which I will be posting in the cooking section as well.
Happy trails...torc.
