temperature jumping ?

Will give that a try next time I see/hear a grasshopper and let you know how it goes. Looks like I'll be carrying a thermometer with me too now, just to check. :)

I have crickets in the garden & in the surrounding fields so I'll check that out & tell you the results later......May not work here though as the temperature is exspected be reach 27°C & the article said it's only valid for up to 22°C.....we shall see, so with thermometer & watch in hand, I'm off to experiment............watch this space !


Well I did it & this is what I got............in the name of scientific accuracy I timed the crickets 30 times for the 8 seconds & heard 16 to 17 chirps.(which is about 2 chirps per second) then if you add on 5 that gives 21°C to 22°C....the temperature in the shade was 26°C........so either they chirp once a second & you get 13°C or twice & you get 22°C.
