I’ve only been here a couple of years so if this has already been discussed then please ignore.

I’ve just seen this Swiss Eagle multitool.

At £30 it vastly undercut the Swiss Army knife.

The blurb talks about Swiss engineering but that could be eyewash.

Anyone tried one? Would heretofore Swiss Army knife users every try one or would the old guard close ranks (in the most loyal of ways)

I can’t see where it is made but I might take a guess at somewhere considerably East of Zurich.

Basically a copy/clone of an Actual SAK from a while ago. Will it work... probably... for how long.... probably.... will it break at some point....probably....

They even stole Victorinox's pic...and edited what was on the handle. In fairness though, both maybe made in the same place... not necessarily to the same standards.

I've been given a number of Victorinox copies over the years and I wouldn't buy any of them if they were a tenner.
Likewise. Never found any worth a jot. Poor tool finish so they don't quite do what they need to do (scissors, file, awl, saw especially) and inconsistent springs.

I'm always surprised at how Victorinox manage to make what they do at the price point they're at. The consistency is phenomenal and they always seem high value.

China are quite capable of making a quality product... If they're paid to do so. They're also quite adept at recycling your old kitchen sink and using CNC programs they have permission to use, to make it look identical to something it is not.

A nefarious copy, deffo a Champ clone made from tinpot steel in China. It's the standard Champ clone you can see in various comparison videos, but with a Swiss Eagle logo added.

All the Vic stuff is made and assembled in Switzerland, despite some confusion a while back about the silver box models having CH printed on them. It stands for Confoederatio Helvetica, not China.

The answer in short form...avoid like the plague.

Absolutely, the country of origin is basically meaningless these days in terms of using that to determine quality. I own plenty of Chinese made knives and the quality can be great, just like some of my American knives are great, some are crap.

I'm referring to the Chinese SAK-alikes I've been gifted, or more usually have just been part of a job lot at auction or a car boot. They're just a bit crap, and really aren't with even a couple of quid because they just don't quite manage to do what the tools they possess are designed to do.

Looking at the storefront, the whole Amazon shop is fake. Nothing is for sale except the knock-off.

Aliexpress have stopped selling knives to the UK and Europe, so it's likely this sort of thing will become more prevalent.
