I found a book titled:
The Complete illustrated handbook of survival
by Anthonio Akkermans, Peter G Drake, Bill Mattos and Andy Middleton.

But I can't find the same book online, anyway has anyone read it? cost me a fiver

Antonio is a highly respected member of this forum and bushcraft teacher.I havent read the book but have no doubts that it contains useful and relevant information. For a fiver you have a bargain.

I think I have a copy I picked up but its called ultimate survival. it was next to a bushcraft version which was the same book but less in it and half the price.

I got it because it had big colour pictures so is usefull with kids :)

I may be wrong on this, but i think that the larger book with the 3 authors was the firs tone and had more outdoor stuff in it from those others as well as the bushcraft stuff from Antonio, the later book is his part of that book re-printed on it's own as a stand along publication.

The straight bushcraft book of Antonio's is the one that we gave away in a competition a while back, it's good and I particularly enjoyed the fact that things are done with flint tools etc rather than going down the steel knife route.

You're right Tone. It's very much 'primitive living' bushcraft (using flint and natural materials) as opposed to 'modern' bushcraft (using steel knifes etc). [edit - but that's what you said already :P]

Good find GTUK :)

I got it last year at the same price.

The amalgamation of the three authors works is done by the publishers and prices set by same.
So don't think that because of the discounted price it's of cheap content 'cos it's not.

Bargain at a fiver though, eh?:D

Tom.

I have a gripe with ALL the survival books I have - The Illustrations depicting edible and poisonous mushrooms are a disgrace! really if these people can't hire illustrators who can actually paint a mushroom exact, they might as well not include them at all. I always feel the mushroom sections are a dangerous thing to include in survival books, made even more so by awful illustrations.

I'll second that comment.

Alot of books do include a disclaimer of sorts though, saying that a fungi identification course should be taken, or they recommend and list further reading.
Actually, I think all books dealing with potentially dangerous fungi and wild plants should include something along those lines.

Good catch btw Globetrotter :D Sounds like an interesting book.

its not too bad a book I slung it in a corner when I picked it up but I've had a look through it again. the wilderness bits are basically the bushcraft version of the book which is only £2.50. the rest is pretty straight forward street survival but dont let the terrorism section and how to survive it put you off. it covers basket weaving and such so has its uses.

I agree on the edibles section of survival and bushcraft books for that matter so have always adopted and taught the when in doubt leave it out mentality. 25 years later I still only fritter about the edges of plants. as long as you can find half a dozen edibles to keep your stomach from rumbling or thicken a soup then that was enough. :)
