Ok, so I'm looking for something good to read. I'd really like to read some survival and bushcraft guidebooks or anything else like U.S. army manuals. Thanks for the suggestions.

Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski, dont own it, never read it, but if i was looking for what you are, i think id try and pick this up going from what i've heard. i hope that helps

+1 on mors' books.

my library has really grown the last few years: :)

SAS survival handbook. the handbook is better than the 'guide'.
essential bushcraft - ray mears
"back to basics" is a great homesteading/pioneering read.
woodcraft and camping NOT camping and woodcraft.
boyscout handbook. don't laugh. its a good read.
mountainman crafts and skills
primitive wilderness skills by McPherson both volumes.
wildwood wisdom is a FANTASTIC read

good luck

+1 for woodcraft and camping. I have a few books and have the mors kochanski book- I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped and haven't picked it up for some time. Not necessarily a bad book just not for me. I tend to go back to a battered copy of ray mears survival handbook for most things-supplemented by a growing selection of foraging/ practical guides.

Cheers. Joab

Not sure this matches the guidebook criteria but Cache Lake Country by John J Rowlands is a wonderful read....the writer is a timber surveyor in the Northwoods, living in a cabin with two companions within a couple of miles, one an old Indian, Chief Tibeash. It contains many wonderful tales of their activities with many practical projects and tips. I just have to re-read it every year, sometimes in a piecemeal way, for both the quality of the narrative as well as the practical information it contains.
