Is the heat and the long day keeping anyone else up?

I'm not usually this bad but I got bored trying to sleep and got up at 4 today!

Me too, almost to the minute!
It's not so much the light mornings directly, but the dawn chorus that it brings about.

Still. it won't be long until the evenings start drawing in again.

Think yourself Lucky! Some of us work the Nightshift which means the day consist of sleeping ( with all the windows closed to keep noise out ) , the quietest of all fans you can find ( although never quiet enough ) , wearing a sleeping eye mask and earplugs only to find you wake up in a thin film of sweat due to the heat and light.

Me. In Summer I get by on about three or four hours sleep for days on end, and then I need to crash for a solid eight or nine for one, then back to the three or four :sigh:
Son1's the same, so was my Father and my Uncle says his Dad was the same. I do mind getting up in the middle of the night and my Dad already had the kettle on :)

You know the worst bit ? Trying to be quiet and still because everyone else is sound asleep. I find I've gotten quite a bit done in the green house and weeding done in the garden these early mornings :D
Amazing amounts of wildlife around too

what night shifts and not beimg able to sleep with out aload of gadgets rubbish you just need to learn how to sleep for instance i went to sleep at half ten last night and well only woke up ten mins ago now if like normall i was on night shift i would just come in at half seven and conk outt till 6 possibly seven at night or have been known to sleep tll ten when i start work at elleven like i said u lot need to learn how to sleep i.e like the dead

Folk working night shifts have my deepest sympathies.
I did permanent 12 hour nights for 9 years. During that time three or four hours was all the sleep I'd get as I'd find myself clenching my teeth at other people saying "Sssshhhh, he's sleeping!" or other mundane rubbish. Even when off shift I'd find myslef at 3 in the morning wondering whether to have another cup of tea or try going to bed!

Yep I'm with you there. I basically can only sleep when its dark, I cant sleep with a mask on so need very heavy curtains and blinds etc to get anywhere near a decent night. Problem is I move about a fair bit, so I have to keep adapting new bedrooms and it gets expensive!

With 20 years of random shift work, my body clock is a mess.
We had "Sunday Night Insomnia" as a regular occurrence. (I get it on Fridays now)
As for heat, today was my first day back at work after a three week holiday in the UK.
The temp and humidity were having a race to see who could get to 100 first.
(temp won, but it was a close race)
Working outside in that kind of temp is not fun

I can't get to sleep anytime before 0000, it's just to light noise isn't a problem round here but in never gets properly dark, just dusky then dawn light begins around 0300 and i'm awake by 05-0600. still long days lots to do.

Nice cold North wind blowing on this part of the country, so no bother sleeping.

As for the light, we've still got blackout curtain liners from when I was working unsocial hours and needed to sleep during the day.

How do you lot manage when you're camping ?
I can sleep at anytime if I feel the need and the light isn't an issue at all. It's just a *sleep now* kind of switch in the brain.........on the otherhand like an overloaded RCB device sometimes it's just not for switching.........like 3am these days :sigh:

cheers,
M

Until I got my Hennessay hammock I use to wake up before 5am whenever I camped. Now I use the hammock and sleep in 'til lunch!

I slept 'til 7.30 today, having had such a long day, a huge feed at a barbecue and more than several beer yesterday. The day will be seized today though, I'm going to the farm in a bit to play at beekeeping.

The tea might be your problem. I was insomniac for about 40 years until somebody happened to mention that they couldn't sleep if they drank tea after tea-time. I stopped drinking tea after LUNCH time and now I'm catching up on all that lost sleep. I can't say if it's made life better yet though, I often sleep so long that I get dehydrated and wake up with a thick head. Like this morning. I slept a full eight hours last night and I'm still regretting it.

Went camping saturday night there, went to bed (well hammock) sometime soon after 3am. I got to sleep no probs and woke up due to the light and bird song. Now, due to the fact I was sooo awake i thought it must be around 9 or 10 so i got up, packed up my hammock etc, had breakfast and THEN turned my phone on - I maybe should have done that first, it was just after 6. So, prob got about 2 hours kip - I was so happy i could have screamed!
It's not all bad though, i used the time to go and collect some chicken of the woods i found the day before and i'm looking forward to trying it. Although i'm a wee bit nervous about having an allergic reaction - never tried it before....
