I am glad the oven held up, gutted I could not make it for the initial firing but the wife had other ideas. I think the next project will have to be a still :) as cooking and sleeping have been catered for, failing that a pole lathe might be fun

yeah it worked well, had a few cracks but filled them up ok, the big one did not reappear, its got some small crazing on it but we can re render that next time its fired....

A pole lathe would be a good one to make, and also an oven door :)....

I'll hopefully have a Bow by the next meet as well.. :), now I've started Field archery again.. :)n and would like to make my own bow:)

I think we might struggle to find a bit of ash suitable that is straight and free of twist, but I am willing to give it a try, I will be bringing my froes and drawknives along next time. Any idea how we will do it?

That's good, I know what you mean I am trying to work out which Bow... I was fixed on one but now I fancy another......I'll place an order at the end of the week...

They have a shoot on the 29th, I am going to that, just filled in my Application forms to Oakwood, and NFAS, shall post them today.. :)

I just been playing this morning, and made this just got to decide how I fasten it, made from 1.5mm Veg Tan, not sure speed lace or just eyelets, lol, how modern do I want...lol

Nice work, I was thinking about making one of those earlier, but was too comfy reading a book in my hammock to get out and do any thing about it. I recon eyelets would look the part, are you going to make finger tab aswell?.

What bow are you getting and what changed your mind from the flat bow

I have made a finger tab, already but a simple one, I used a glove the other day and liked that so may just get one of them, I am inclined towards the simple eyelets,

I am Thinking about the Buck Trail Antelope as well, but not sure with the length of my draw.. the Blackhawk is still, my fave at the mo, as is the cost, lol

I will make quiver when i decided on weather I want back or side... and of course get some more of the thicker veg tan

Its good to see you guys getting into archery,it's a great way to spend your time at home and out and about. Oakwood is a great club, Del and co are good people, that's why it's my club too.
Back quivers look good but can make you look like a dog chasing his tail when trying to take your arrows out or maybe that's just me.
I have a few quivers and use different ones depending on which bow I am shooting.
Which bows are you thinking of buying? As i see lots of bows that look great, but can be rubbish in the hand. A bit like getting the right bow weight, you will hear it all the time about being overbowed and it is true, evryone always goes to high thinking they will work up to the weight but normally hurt themselves or get feed up with not shooting the bow well.
Thanks for your time
Steve

To start off with I will proberbly get one of the generic take down jobs, cheap and I can get stronger limbs as I progress, unless I get lucky and find an old Hoyt for not a lot

As you know I was into archery but gave it up over 20 years ago, just took me time to come back to it.... the membership went in the post yesterday.

I am going for more of a traditional bow I like the idea of a flat bow I used one the other week and got on well with it, main problem for me is cost, I like the look of the Buck trial range, at the mo bouncing between the Blackhawk and the antelope, I was using a 30lb, and that was just toooo light, so going for around 40lb to 45lb, once I am can warrant the money i'll prob upgrade, and use the Buck trail as a back up.. :)

Be good to catch up soon, hopefully see you at our new site soon

but the Blackhawk is winning at the mo,

Hi all,
The cost is always a factor and how quick can i get it is another for me. There are alot of bows out there, have you had a look at Perris archery they have a place just out of Ipswich along the A12. They don't have alot but they let you try before you buy in their indoor range, you don't have to buy their bow but you can see what poundage to go for?.
I went for one of their Metis AFBs at the start, but really wanted an Howard Hill bow but thought I could have this one now then save up for the Hill bow, but after buying the Hill bow I never looked at the Metis bow again.
Its always the same, you buy something and then go on a shoot and start to see other bows and think hhmm thats very nice....... I've been lucky that the bows I shoot and love I don't see other people shooting. I have the Howard Hill Big 5 bow outstanding bow just I bit long now, which is weird as I stared out shooting English longbows. And my favorite bow at the moment is a Great Northern critter gitter bow with jackknife handle, I also have the GN fireball which is a outstanding bow but I love the critter gitter.
The company stopped making them last year which is a real shame as I would have brought another in a lower poundage in the future.
One more thing i found i that the handles can be different on different bows, some are fat and fill the hand and some are thin and cut into the plam. My Howard hill bow has a fat handle but my Jerry hill bow has a thin handle which I don't like.
Thanks again
Steve

The tarp could be mine, I remember bringing it on one of the sessions and haven't seen it recently. I just assumed it was hiding in the corner of the attic somwhere cant remember what guy lines I put on it but they are luminous yellow or desert/coyote brown paracord, that sounds right.

Of course it could be Kev's and mine is still in the loft somewhere!

90% sure I'll be there for the next meet. I'll put my name down when I'm sure. I'll bring my cattys as well. Have a new one from the guy in texas that isn't a left hander only.
