I look for care and attention when engaging a craftsman for a commission. ...it's the stuff they don't show you that you can get a feel for by looking at how they treat their own kit.

Amen. I'm currently designing a new apron for just that reason. Anyone can buy a cheap-o bit of leather, but it looks like a cheap-o bit of leather and speaks volumes.

Of course, keeping up with all those little details can be a pain. I've saved your pics to my files so I can refer to them later on when I need some inspiration!

I find a lot of inspiration through Pinterest searches and save the best bits to my own "Boards" for reference later.

I think Pinterest works so well because the images are graded by human responses instead of just some computer algorithm.

Pinterest is my bane. It's so easy to get addicted as you search for ideas. No matter what you're looking for, they've got hundreds of examples, adding more every day. I can burn up some serious hours on that site!! :O
