A brush wot I made

This is a Winter Moot creation, during a workshop by Neil and Jayne of Forgeways.

Nice little bit of hazel I roughly whittled. Thought it might look quite cool with a bit of scorching combined with the rough knife finish, and I’m quite pleased with it.

First brush I’ve ever made, so plenty of notes for next time (I’d carve a groove for the wire, for example) but plenty happy with it. Needed a pastry brush at home so the timing was perfect.



Tool used for whittling was my Ben Orford Woodlander. Cruised through the hazel no dramas at all.

What is the fluffy stuff made of? Are the bristles hazel as well?

I can’t quite remember for sure, but I think it might be Tampico Fibre (or Ixtle for generic name), which is a plant fibre.
