Hi all,

I just bought a starkie sharp paste and honing leather. WOW! Very good for sharpening anything with a cutting edge (as they say).
Not sure how good it would be on a secondary bevel, but it is excellent on a flat grind and a convex. All my knives now are absolutely razor hiar-popping sharp. Get yourselves one, well done Sargey for recomending it to me!

Now just to get out again after a LONG hiatus due to work and other things. i think the url is http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=19854&name=strop&sfile=1&jump=0. But if you email them they will send you an order form, quick delivery and very helpful.

And it is only about a fiver!

Cheers,

Jake

Couldn't find either of those listed on their website. No big deal 'cause I have strops up the ying yang but it's nice to look at 'em. :-D

I couldnt either, i was just told it was good and i asked Starkie for a pricelist and order form. They sent it to me in the post and i just sent them a cheque. It is just a good piece of leather with this stick paste type thing.

Cheers,

Jake

Thats another plus point, they take up no space. I'll never need a waterstone again! (unless my knife is damaged)!

Yup these are the dogs wotsits :-D , the paste (well its more the consistancy of a wax crayon) also works well on other strops and isn't as messy as some other dressings. All my blades have a final polish on these.

Cheers

I couldnt think of an example (duh). I havent got the scratches off my woodlore yet but i am working on it!

Thanks for the heads up on the Starkie sharp, Jake.

By coincidence, saw them at the Game show this weekend. Best fiver I've ever spent:

1. Gives a superb mirror finish 'scary sharp' edge.
2. Looks like will last a long time.
3. Doesn't remove too much knife!
4. Much less hassle than cardboard and Autosol method.

Recommended.

(Saw the tiny GB mini hatchet at the Game Fair too.....£45........I was tempted, but resisted.....)

Couldnt have put it better! I think it is the best sharpening tool i have ever used. You can actually shave with the result!

Cheers,

Jake
