Hi Richard,

I believe these devices are called "Pike Scissors".
Have just goggled, but not found any for sale.
I guess only available from fairly specialist supplier, rather than usual fishing tackle suppliers....as probably not considered very sporting!

Not a lot of help I'm afraid - but the name may help in your search
Cheers
John

I think you'll find that these are illegal in the UK.

If you are fishing abroad where they are allowed then you may have to buy them there.

cheers,
Toddy

Correct Toddy, although Stuart may be able to help you out if he isn't swinging about in a jungle somewhee, as I seem to recall he did a group buy on them a while back.

hello

Thanks ever so much.

you've been very helpfull.

The speedhooks are great, but are not the same as 'pike scissors'. The pike scissors are unfortunately not legal (for recreative fishermen, but commersial fishermen are allowed) here anymore thanks to a stupid animal welfares governmental agency. I don't condemn animal welfare but this agency was just to make a political show, they made all sorts of strange and really idiotic laws. They were 'disbanded' with the new goverment so currently it is a bit unsure how all the stupid stuff they made up should be handled. Hopefully some of it will be legal again. (One of my favourite laws was that nobodys was allowed to have a single horse, the horses was supposed to have company ALL the time, but it didn't matter wether it was a horse, you could have a horse and a goat, as long as the horse wasn't alone. Which is just silly really. Another fav was the one about not being allowed to have highland cattle or icelandic sheep out all year round. If the alaskan ranchers can, why can't we? They said it was bad for the animals...)

If you ever visit scandinavia you will find most old guys use them anyway, specially during winter. Baited with roach, or small perch. You can buy them from postorder stores from Åland I think, were they're still legal (I think, don't bet your house on it though).
EDIT: you can buy them from swedish postorder stores too, e.g. www.fiskeutrustning.se >> vinterfiske (winterfishing) >> övrigt vinterfiske (misc. winterfishing)
This is the thing I'm talking about (in collapsed mode):

I would take some suitable wire and hooks and make them at your destination. A leatherman, some swivels and hooks and a bit of wire and they would be soooo easy to knock up in a country where they are legal.
