Gradually getting less spade like with practice !

Lovely, you’re right about green wood being easier, how does hazel carve compared to birch? never carved hazel yet....

I've found hazel to be a little bit crisper to carve, and birch a little softer, but anything green is a whole lot easier on the hands of course !

They look lovely, I like the little one on the right. Looks like it'd make a nice brew kit/porridge spoon!
I'm no expert, but one thing I've learnt with carving is that you just need to stick at it and keep practicing and you will soon see the development in your craft.
