South West Bushcraft Show.

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I also attended the show and had a great time. Yes it was small but it was the first show and everyone who was there as very friendly and very helpful. The stands were all great and varied from primitive skills, forging along with Guides and Scout stands and few bushy ones too.

Northern Lights had a stand and Sean did a few interesting talks and as always he was generous with his time.

The food choice was excellent with great coffee, Jacks Hatch serving great food and a tasty pizza van. The bar was in the main part of the football ground and prices were just right!

The all important toilets and showers were clean and looked after.

As it is just off the centre of Newton Abbot I had time to visit there and on the way Teignmouth and Dawlish so plenty of places to visit off site too.

With the Wilderness Gathering now in Kent; anyone in the SW who is not keen on a long drive I would suggest this is the place to go next summer so put space in your diary!

They've taken down the Wilderness ticket page now, buy on the gate only, which is fine but how much are the tickets ? - Anybody advise the Whole Event ticket price please?

The wife and I went along on the Friday for the day, and I’d generally agree with the comments posted previously. Unfortunately there were, I suppose, quite a few missing stands on the Friday during the day, so the main area was feeling a bit lacking in traders. I understand that some exhibitors wouldn’t be there until the weekend as they had their usual jobs to do to live, but there we are. For a fiver’s entry it was still pretty good, and we were able to park pretty close by.

A couple of suggestions:

1. A list of traders and exhibitors for the show on the website is an absolute must. If it was there at any point I couldn’t find it.

2. A signpost at the main entry area indicating the locations of toilets, first aid, and food/drink sales. I found later one or two A4 posters with a general layout on them near the rugby club building but these weren’t obvious.

3. On arrival and entry I needed the loo. When I saw a sign to the Gents, it turned out to be a building with only urinals inside. I urgently needed a #2, but could only find the disabled loo and baby changing room, so I had to use that. If there were more Gents toilets I couldn’t quickly locate them.

Yes, loos and water availability were the two main gripes,(and to be honest, my only gripes) but they were there, just needed more signage.
No water or loos on the actual campsite and a long walk to get there was my biggest hassle.
Jonno is aware, and things will be better next year.
I think, for a young chap,(hark at grandma!) he did very well.
I'll certainly be going again next year.

It takes a huge amount of effort and resources to put on an event, much less a new event, so that's very brave of him. I wish him well.
The actual cost of getting to/from and event, and costs while there, is a problem for a lot of traders.

Well doped up on Ibruprofen Max Strength I with my support who persuaded me to go attended on the Saturday.

To have a number of good conversations with various vendors for some doors I didn't know existed to appear and appear ajar.

As to what I bought, I bought a book, the book ;

A Shamanic Herbal - Plant teachers and Animal Medicines

Ooh, I was looking at that book, but rationing the pennies. It was gone when I went back for it.
You are the culprit eh? :)

Ahh awesome! Looking forward to having you along!

Just clocked you were involved in running this - thanks for organising and putting something together in the south west. I'm sure next years event will have more people return and become more established.
