  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Thanks Jonno.
I remember the show that got cancelled, I was planning to go to that, when it got sadly cancelled.
Glad you are back with your dream, and didn't give up. Kudos to you.
I'm sure you'll get lots of support, as this end of the country needs this, especially since the wilderness gathering moved to the the other side of the country.
Best of luck to this becoming a bigun!

Just found this and glad I did! Trying to get myself to be a bit more social so will definitely ride down from Forest of Dean for the day (unless the wife and boy want to join). I used to wild camp Dartmoor once or twice a year when I lived in Somerset. And have a pint at the Warren House whenever I riding through. Good excuse to swing by Bovey Tracy for a bottle of whisky while local!

I'm going, even though I have no idea how I'm going to get home on a Sunday as I have to rely on public transport..of which there is non for the last 20 miles home. I'm trusting in providence!

It looks like the wife and I will be along on the Friday, but she doesn’t do camping any more so it’ll just be a full day job. We’ll be in a beaten but reliable dark blue Suzuki Vitara with BCUK sticker on the back door. We might be found in the beer tent for 1300 if there is one :). I’ll drive down, but……

Oh, you gotta stay over for at least one night!
There is a cheap hotel nearby, at the racecourse almost opposite tesco, perhaps it might be suitable for your lady? Or even both of you. Make it a weekend away, maybe even a trip to the nearby coast( torquay) before going home. Or a shopping trip to trago Mills, a massive place where you can always pick up a bargain. Used to be a regular Sunday trip out years ago when I lived nearer.

Even I have heard of Trago Mills, mate of mine raves about how good and cheap/bargains it has.
If you can't find what you need for your house, garden, tummy, or leasure there, it's a bad day!
They even had a petting zoo and minni train, and boating lake last time I went, though I havnt been for about17 yrs,so things may have changed a bit.

I've managed to persuade someone to take me,and bring me back.
Miracles do happen occasionally.
Only a couple of weeks to go now. I started getting stuff together today, as my kit is set up mainly for hammock camping with a fire to cook on. A rethink is nessasary.
Would my pink tent be too unbushcrafty? Perhaps the fairbanks, or shall I take the smokey hut? Shall i take a camp bed, or just the air bed, and hope i can cope with getting up off the floor in the morning? Decisions!
Whatever I take I'll wish I'd taken something else.
The hammock set up is honed to perfection after so many years, I'm feeling confused now. Too much gear, too much choice. New set ups always faze me! I've halfa mind to go with my vintage set up.
Oh heck!!!!!

One more sleep!
Packed and ready.
I'm excited to try this new bushcraft show out.
Hope to meet up with some fellow bcukers there. Anyone else going for the weekend?

I shall be under canvas but not there - prior biker party complete with silly games, only one game of which involves drinking. Then drinking...

The missus and I are popping down for the day today (Friday). I’ll be wearing my BCUK “Think Outside” T-shirt and the wife will wear an old DD tarps knot design T-shirt. We will probably be in the bar at 1300. Say hello if you’re there :)

Just got back a few hours ago, it was a full on weekend for me, as I went down with bronchitis on Tuesday and my doc said not to go. Being a contrary old soul, I went! So it was a bit of a struggle. Took me about 2 hrs to set up the smokey hut! But I've come back home stronger and fitter, so doc, I was right!
The herbalist lady sorted me out with some teas and tinctures, and the antibiotics are unopened.
It was a large site, but a small show, so a lot of walking arout from tent to water tap and loos etc, which was hard slow going for this puffing Billy, but I loved every minute. Met some lovely people, but then who isn't in the bushcraft scene?
There were a few minor teething troubles, but they could be forgiven at an inaugural event.
Hope this will become as good as the wilderness gathering. Jonno did a great job, and with luck and support, it will get bigger and better.
I bought some lovely things, I'll put up some photos of what I bought when i get a moment. I'm too tired tonight. Shower, cuppa tea, and bed.
Unpack tomorrow.
Repack for wilderness in a couple of days, as I have been offered a lift. Yeehay! Cheers Jason. Someone upstairs is smiling on me. I didn't think either event would be possible a couple of days ago.
