Sourcing wood - greenland paddle

  • Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (29th July - 10th August) available until April 6th, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
I've been doing a bit of carving over the summer (mainly spoons) but fancied something a bit bigger. I want to try carving a paddle but I'm not sure where to source decent bits of big wood from. It needs to be a decent grade of sitka spruce or cedar. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum .
Apologies if my suggestion sounds obvious ...
It's not intended to be facetious.

1- Befriend a tree surgeon?

2-You can also get in touch with your local sawmill and explain your request ...
Next time the logs come in , the boss will give you a call .
I'd imagine cedar would be easier to get hold of ...

Good luck , and be sure to share with us pictures of your paddle .
