Hi all.

I have a surplus bivi bag and have enjoyed lovely warm dry nights under the stars in it.

I've always looked after it, rinsing with clean water, inside and out, after each trip and drip drying.

The time before the last trip I noticed a faint smell which wasn't especially repulsive but on the last trip I was nearly feeding it into the fire.

On my return home I went through the usual washing process hanging it in the usual place when later on that evening I witnessed a Tom cat skullking around and spraying on the bag.
I gently coaxed it away :AR15firin and started crying.

Does anyone know how to remove the smell of a cats bladder from goretex without damaging the material?

Thanks in advance.

Martin

Not sure if this will work but last year I had a carton of milk leak inside a rucksack that curdled in the heat, the smell made me want to chunder instantly, washed it out with water then I used bicarbinate of soda sprinked inside and left it for an hour or 2 then vacumed it out. did the trick for me.
Mum has 3 cats and I hate the smells from used litter trays, bicarbinate of soda in them absobs that odour so you may be lucky.
if you google uses of bicarbinate of soda it has loads of uses.

I got told if using a washing machine use "soap flakes" to wash goretex, but run the washing machine empty to flush it of any remaining modern detergents before you use them, apparently soap flakes are very mild and wont damage goretex, far cheaper then the special goretex soaps

By mistake i shut our old cat in the spare room where all my kit is kept and by the time i realised it, he'd peed on my rucksack. Couldn't really blame the old boy. If someone shut me in a room for a whole day, i'd probably have to take a pee too. I shoved it - still dripping - into the washing machine and put it on a cold rinse half-a-dozen times then left it outside on the washing line in the fresh air for 3 days. That did the trick ok.
Personally, i'd use a Nikwax or Grangers cleaner. Because you're worth it. :)
