Just finished the mask for this 2lb axe I rehandled with 21" of Ash.

Just realised I need some pics of it unsheathed...:eek:

Still, my first venture into the world of Saddle Tan dye with dark edges, not quite as orange as it looks here. A bit patchy as it's hard to get a good even finish compared to dark brown dye - hopefully the next one will be better.

Lovely mask and great handling job - I love old English axes, Gilpin, Elwell, Whitehouse, Brades, Nash, etc. I've a 2lb Gilpin needing a new handle and rather marvellous 4.5lb Gilpin felling axe. The one I use most is an Elwell 1.5lb Kent pattern which is grand for carving. Hopefully one day I'll be able to do them justice with handles and masks that approach your standards!
