If my dictionary is right, skifa is an Old Norse word meaning to slice. That is what Charles May calls this scandi interpretation of a Mors Kochanski style knife. Fortune smiles on me as this one resides on my belt.

from what i gather elsewhere. this knife is a development of another, like a custom knife as specified by mors kochanski. the prototypes were tested extensively on a recent winterskills course with mors.

the actual pattern specified has hollow/tube pins/rivets securing the tang. this way the knife can be lashed to a stick for harvesting birchbark higher up a tree and for use as a scythe. obviously mors has been looking at our own woodcutter's ideas! :D

there has also been talk of having a hole in the blade for use with a nail to make a pair of shears. apparently it works very effectively.

cheers, and.
