Did you use a stylus to draw out the initial pattern or are those pencil lines?

Been wondering... you know the method of producing a zinc plate with a reverse etched design on it? Is that essentially the same as using the swivel knife and bevellers? They both require wet leather and both need pressure applied to impress into the wet leather.

Still cleaning up the design I did the other day and have started on some more complicated ones... tools have yet to arrive :(

The pattern is stencilled on by wetting the leather and putting tracing paper with the design on top, then the design is gone over again lightly with a stylus, imprinting it into the leather.

Regarding the plate, yes and no it's a bit different.

And even though you can do everything with a stylus, as i said above it's not my usual method. I have around 30 stamps I use daily for leather carving and various other homemade or custom tools :)
