There is a technique where you create a loop and a half, then bring the outer strand into the middle on each side.
Can't remember where I saw it though.

Perhaps someone else can help

Basic plait.
Three strands, one in each hand and one hanging free.
Cross right hand strand over the middle one, the middle one is now your right hand strand.
Cross left hand strand over the middle one, the middle one is now your left hand strand.
Continue, right hand over middle, left hand over middle, until the braid is the length you want.

To get a neat braid you must work under tension, so tie a knot in the end of the three strands before you start and either get someone to hold it for you or jam it into a drawer and push it closed, or use a long pin and pin the knot to something....the couch? I sometimes use a small stick and tie the cords to it, I can hold the stick beneath my toes and pull against it to keep the tension even.

Try looking up scoobies on google, there are masses of clear instructions about for braiding the plastic laces that are applicable to paracord or leather there.

There is a way to do this with only one strand though Toddy.
If you imagine your 3 strands is one long one looped.
It starts as the middle strand then loops up and to the left to create the left strand. It then crosses the start of the middle strand and down the outside on the right to create the right hand strand.
Now do the standard 3 strand braid Toddy describes so well.
You'll have to untangle the bottom half as you go because this gets all tangled as you cross the strands over.

I was only looking at a site that detailed that earlir. can temember what it was now.

Have found this though.

Scroll down, or ctrl f and look for "twist braid" or "double chain" and it's quite a good pic of it...

:o Ooops, sorry. That's what comes of reading the thread too fast and not looking at the pictures!

Nice links on the closed plaits folks. :) Thanks.

Cheers,
Toddy
