This was a bit of a project. I was hoping to get some nice curly birch or something similar but alas money came up just too tight so I looked around and came up with this...

The wood is from a box of wooden floor tile samples I was given. They are various types of hardwood but as you see not very thick :) The leather was scraps of vegtan from various projects and I must say it adds a nice amount of grip to the smooth wood and antler. The antler itself was from a piece I got a while back with a few others, cheap off ebay. Finally at the end is a piece of cowbone - just because!

It took quite a bit of shaping and I had to be careful as the antler was getting thin in some places. The blade end could probably have done with being a little lower so I could have made a finger guard but overall I'm extremely pleased with how it all turned out and thanks again to chrisanson for the womderful blade. Can't wait to show this off to my Kindred!

Chrisanson deserves the rep for the blade - it's a beauty! 4" blade with full-length stick tang. I've been using the mini seax he made me for a while now and it holds a brilliant edge - except for my Mora carver it's the only blade I've ever got shaving sharp! - so I'm expecting the same from this. The straight cutting edge may not be to everyones taste but I love it. Once I've got it sharp and made a sheath I'm going to have to find some bush to craft :p just to see what it can do.

I love this knife! Even halfway to properly sharp it's cutting leather like butter. The heft is great - it's a lot of blade for its length but rests easily in the hand. I'm working on a sheath for it - trying out the trad horizontally slung style I've seen with a lot of seaxes. No pattern, just some scraps of leather and some time to play :D (It's in black dualtanned leather with artificial sinew and brass rivets. I would have preferred vegtan but I had this and it'll make a good template for the good one when I get a good bit. The dualtanned leather still has some characteristics of the vegtan but was finished off with chrome tanning and impregnated with wax. I get lots of bits from the scrap box at the Identity Store (Tandys) )
