If I was to wander to the woods in the next few days, can anyone recommend anything edible I should be on the look out for?

Wild cresses are still producing good tasty fresh greenery, and so are nettles, dockers and dandelions.
Still a fair number of fungus around too, and it's been so mild that there are loads of fruits still hanging around…there are even brambles still ripening here…..rosehips and sycamore seeds as well.

Roadkill. There is a lot of drunk drivers, with slow reactions, even empty roads with sober speeders. The mornings are cool enough for the nights causalities to still be good before the next round of drunks hit the road.

Parsnips are at thier best and so are burdock if you have clocked the location when the tops were green.

I am having free range chicken tommorrow not roadkill.

Even in my corner of SW London there are things to be doing. We collected some velvet shank and a big clump of oyster mushrooms on Boxing Day. I also saw some hen pheasant/driads saddle that was a bit past it but just, on Wimbledon common. Considering we ate that on our summer holiday in Pembrokeshire that is a 6 month season! Lots of greens as toddy mentions are still sending shoots. Have fun!

We left lots behind and its a new mark to add to my mental stash, there may be people in our parks but no competition for fungus.

It's surprising what I've found in town, chicken of the woods from Greenwich Park, horse mushroom at Brent Cross shopping centre, St George's mushrooms on Wimbledon Common and these from a scrappy little trail that follows the Wandle through an industrial estate. Sorry, off topic, today I collected some rose hips from a sheltered spot as I hadn't got a chance before. Good luck QG
