After a session with Scruff :You_Rock_ and following Tvividrs great tutorial on BB, thought i'd have a go at making a proper scandi sheath for the Nylund blade I handled.

Simple on the decoration, as I want to develop leather work over the next few months, but I love it. Ive made western style sheaths for the last couple of knives, but I learnt some skills from doing this one, that can be crossed over. This time I managed to get the magic click as it slides home.

Used an old Norweigion 10 ORE coin from 1924, as a button to hold the belt loop together.
It already had a hole in the middle, so could'nt resist.

Hope you like.

Cheers. Nice work there sasquatch.
Scandis all the way for me at the moment. Going to make three more simple stacked knives and sheaths for friends soon. Got ideas for more complicated designs, keeping me awake at night!

Nice work Addo
What type of leather did you use.
Did you burnish the sheath while it dried?

Look HERE for some ideas on different styles etc

Cheers Alf.
It was just natural veg tan 3.5mm. I dyed it d.brown and carnuba waxed.
The burnishing on the back edge was done when very slightly wet.

You should have burnished the whole thing as it was drying to get it smooth and shiny.

Thinner leather is better say 2.5 mm and I use half tanned leather.

Another tip is to soak the leather in luke warm water for a minute and a half max then put it in the fridge for half an hour to reduce/stop the orange peel effect.
