Well, after hanging my nose over one for a couple of years, i finaly orderd one, on the 7th, and it arrived today.
First impressions are good, the stiching is all straight, buttons, velcro(hate that stuff)zips, all working well, seems very well made. This has arrived in time for a walk i'm doing next week, and should be out for 2/3 nights, so i'll get to give it a work out.

I upgraded mine with a few cordlocks and replaced the over-the-head slider on the hood with a couple more. Worth stitching down the ends of the hoods drawcords if you do this to stop them whacking you in the eye in wind

Yep, changed the cordlocks on mine was the only improvement. Been worn literally hundreds of times, still a superb garment.

I like the idea of the Sass smock. I currently wear a black M65 replica (Nikwax Cotton-Proofed) as my daily-wear and bimblingl coat. I wear a (Cotton-Proofed) boonie or waxed broad-brimmed hat depending upon weather. It's not fully waterproof so if it's raining hard I wear a waterproof membrane jacket. If I'm doing something strenuous a poly-cotton jacket is a bit sweaty.

How much better is a Sass smock?

qite like the idea of one of these as an oversmock - without the pockets - theres a couple of pics on their site

It handles much more rain than proofed ordinary cotton but not as much as a membrane jacket. However it feels much better to wear, is more breathable, tougher and better round fires. Highly recommended.

Hi everyone,

I am working on a university research project focusing on smocks manufactured by Lancaster SASS. I'm speaking to original users and current users of these smocks to find out what people have used them for over the years, and also to document the history of the company. I'll be writing a couple of articles based on this research which I will be able to share with the community here if they are successfully published.

If anyone here owns or has owned a smock from this manufacturer, and would consider telling me about it, please post here and I'll provide more details ... or I've created a dedicated thread for the project here https://bushcraftuk.com/community/t...ke-to-speak-to-past-or-present-owners.168691/

Thank you! Best regards, Katie
