San Mai Kukri

I thought I’d share the finished results of a San Mai kukri I forged recently. It’s not exactly traditional as I wanted to add my own style to it.

Cor! Didn’t that hamon come up well? That’s a cracker mate, nicely done.

Thank you, it’s not a hamon though. The steel is laminated together so the center piece has no nickel content and gets etched quicker by acid. The hammering process creates the waves between the 3 layers.

I do I also do pattern layered steel (Damascus as everyone calls it) it’s all hand hammered at the moment until I can afford a press.
