Sacrilege!! Sassenach makes a Sgian Dubh (sort of)

For some time now I have harboured a desire to make one of these little knives, for no particiular reason, other than that they are pretty.
Anyway, here is my attempt:

The blade is only 2.5 inches long, flat (ish) ground, and has a fuller cut into it; a big thankyou to Mr Dave Budd for pointing out to me the way to do it in an earlier thread. Dave - :You_Rock_

The handle is oak, with a bolster made of stainless, home made epoxy impregnated cloth, stainless, walnut and more stainless, and the butt cap is also stainless, slightly dished and hammer finished, and held on with epoxy and two stainless pins (these started life as M3 stainless pan head machine screws)
I put a little filework on the spine (I believe the little notches are to be able to detect in the dark which side is not the sharp side)

The knife is held in the little scabbard by means of two tiny neodymium magnets let into routed pockets inside the scabbard; these seem to hold it securely, as shown here:

Thanks for the kind words, it's good to know that I haven't caused any offence!
Culloch - regarding the thickness of the handle, as I have no kilt (and am not entitled to wear one), I'm not too worried about traditional wear. In fact at some point I will probably make a neck sheath for it, the scabbard you see today is just so that it looks right.

Culloch - regarding the thickness of the handle, as I have no kilt (and am not entitled to wear one), .

The kilt is a mans garment , every man has a right to wear one if he chooses.
There are kilt wearers all over the world let me tell you . Check out Xmarksthescot forum if you don't believe me.
Think it like this.......you don't have to be a cowboy to wear blue jeans do you ?

The only reason I don't wear the kilt everyday is because I do alot of metal work and welding and it's not good for the kilt.
Oh , and I was born in London :yikes:

Great Sgian Bubh, reminds me a bit of mine.
I got married in a kilt and was proabsably the best item of clothing i have ever worn. That was 10 years ago and am in the process of gettting my kilt let out a little. HOW MUCH? Just dont ask.
