For some time now I have harboured a desire to make one of these little knives, for no particiular reason, other than that they are pretty.
Anyway, here is my attempt:

The blade is only 2.5 inches long, flat (ish) ground, and has a fuller cut into it; a big thankyou to Mr Dave Budd for pointing out to me the way to do it in an earlier thread. Dave - :You_Rock_

The handle is oak, with a bolster made of stainless, home made epoxy impregnated cloth, stainless, walnut and more stainless, and the butt cap is also stainless, slightly dished and hammer finished, and held on with epoxy and two stainless pins (these started life as M3 stainless pan head machine screws)
I put a little filework on the spine (I believe the little notches are to be able to detect in the dark which side is not the sharp side)

The knife is held in the little scabbard by means of two tiny neodymium magnets let into routed pockets inside the scabbard; these seem to hold it securely, as shown here:

Thanks for looking, and I hope I haven't offended any Scots by showing this!

Thats nice work mate, can see a lot of thought went into that!
might want to slim down the thickness for traditional wear but a wee beauty all the same!

Thanks for the kind words, it's good to know that I haven't caused any offence!
Culloch - regarding the thickness of the handle, as I have no kilt (and am not entitled to wear one), I'm not too worried about traditional wear. In fact at some point I will probably make a neck sheath for it, the scabbard you see today is just so that it looks right.

That is a lovely bit of work - now you need to get a kilt to show it off properly! (and there is no such thing as not being entitled to wear one - if anything you have just become an honorary Scot)!

Nice work!
You should see the state of some of the tourists that walk round Edinburgh in the summer , from all corners of the world . so you can wear what you like .

Nice work.
I like a nice bit of jimping on the back of a blade.
A bit thick for my tastes, but as you say, it's not for wearing.

Culloch - regarding the thickness of the handle, as I have no kilt (and am not entitled to wear one), .

The kilt is a mans garment , every man has a right to wear one if he chooses.
There are kilt wearers all over the world let me tell you . Check out Xmarksthescot forum if you don't believe me.
Think it like this.......you don't have to be a cowboy to wear blue jeans do you ?

The only reason I don't wear the kilt everyday is because I do alot of metal work and welding and it's not good for the kilt.
Oh , and I was born in London :yikes:

See sense and get a kilt for the sgian dubh goodjob.

Great Sgian Bubh, reminds me a bit of mine.
I got married in a kilt and was proabsably the best item of clothing i have ever worn. That was 10 years ago and am in the process of gettting my kilt let out a little. HOW MUCH? Just dont ask. :p
