Very nice knife. Much more desirable than the western makers you see all the time IMO.
I got a wee bit drunk on the sleeper train from murjek to stockholm, talking to a sami lad in his twenties going to stay in Colorado for seven months. He'd trained as a knife maker, at their sami college and knew all the sami craftsmen with knives for sale in the boutique in Jokkmokk. He told me the curve in the sheaths of the knives, once represented the shape of the valley where you came from.
I fell for a maker called Jarva-per, or Per Blind, he etches a wolverine on each of his sheaths. Lives near Kiruna in his seventies. Wrote a book in 1970 called the hunter.
Its difficult to get them mail order. Th cheapest Ive seen is £550, but its not as good as yours.
Good luck with the sale. True sami made puukkos of that quality are difficult to get hold of. I think that would be used for notching the reindeers ears?
Website
here with sami makers signatures, but he wont post anything outside Nylund.
